Well, I can officially check off one of the items on my list! If you read my post back at the end of December then you know that I created a “30 Before 30” list as I wanted to make the most of my last year in the 20’s. If you haven’t read it, you can check it out here.
Now since turning 29 (January 10th) I have been slow to tackle my list due to it being my last semester in college and starting a new job BUT on a whim I was able to mark something off my list last weekend. Believe me when I say it was on a whim because it all happened while at a bar.
My cousin Randy was in town for the weekend and while out to dinner/drinks it was brought up about me wanting to get ordained. Randy (who is only 3 months older than me) informed me that he had gotten ordained in 2009…hello Reverend Randy! After hearing this, I IMMEDIATELY went online via my iPhone and did a search to be ordained. After checking out a few sites I decided to get my ordination from America Marriage Ministries. The reason I chose them was because of their beliefs. I pulled this directly from their site:
American Marriage Ministries (“AMM”) is built on the belief that all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or socioeconomic status, have the right to engage in the marriage contract, that all people have the right to administer the marriage contract, and that it is the right of every couple to choose who will officiate their marriage.
AMM and its ministers believe in the doctrine of marriage, that marriage is a sacred bond, a religious rite to be cherished and respected by the people and the state.
AMM is a non-denominational church. Of its three officers one is Presbyterian, one Jewish, the third Agnostic. This religious society, and all members thereof, stand for the principled intent of helping all people.
Seeing as how my family and friends are made up of a crazy variety of people, I felt that this fell directly in line with my own thoughts. So, while at Woody’s Sports and Video Bar in the Gayborhood (Oak Lawn area) and with my Vodka-7 in hand I filled out my information to be ordained. Literally 15seconds later there it was. My certificate. Seeing as how Texas has no registration requirements for ministers to perform marriages, I can now marry people!
With this marked off my list, you can just refer to me as Rev. Ana. Now all I need to do is convince some of my friends to let me officiate their marriages….maybe that’ll be on my “to-do” list for when I turn 30, lol.
